A custom WordPress marketplace giving hairdressers and salons a place to showcase their work, manage their professional presence and access practical career tools.
An idea with everyday use in mind
A portfolio shows what a hairdresser can do. Experience, specialisations and services explain the person behind that work. Rate My Hair brings these details together, helping professionals present themselves and visitors find someone whose skills suit their needs.
As a product of my own, the project covered the full journey from concept to launch: planning, UX/UI design, WordPress development, custom functionality, payments and SEO. Decisions about the website also had to account for running and developing the business after launch.
One profile, several useful tools
The professional profile is the starting point for the wider toolkit. Information entered once supports a digital business card, a downloadable Hair CV and a professional link page, alongside the portfolio itself.
A custom account area gives hairdressers control over their details and work. Salon features extend that structure to teams, while professional insights help users understand how their profiles are being viewed.
These tools share the same underlying content, reducing repeated input and keeping each professional’s information connected.
The work behind the rating
Before-and-after transformations have their own place within the marketplace. Each entry connects a visible result with the professional responsible for it and the ratings it receives.
Visitors can explore transformations, browse portfolios and filter professionals by relevant criteria. This gives discovery a practical focus: seeing the work, understanding the experience behind it and finding the services they need.
Membership connected to the experience
Stripe handles recurring payments, with custom membership logic connecting subscription status to account access and profile visibility.
Trials, renewals, failed payments and cancellations feed back into the website through the integration. Keeping those states in sync reduces manual administration and makes membership part of the product’s everyday operation.
Launch was the starting point
Running Rate My Hair creates a direct connection between development decisions and daily use. Content management, member support and new feature requirements all inform how the product evolves.
WordPress provides the content foundation, with custom development supporting the marketplace’s specific workflows. The shared structure allows new tools and features to build on existing profiles, accounts and content as the business develops.
