How a website gets designed?
A good website starts with understanding your business, your audience and what each page needs to achieve.
What the site has to achieve
The first step is to agree on the website’s purpose. Whether that means generating enquiries, selling products or explaining your services, those priorities guide the design.
Pages and priorities
A page plan establishes what belongs where and how visitors move through the website. Key information gets the attention it needs, with clear routes to the next step.
Visual direction
Typography, colour, imagery and layout establish the overall feel. I’ll work through this direction with you before extending it across the rest of the website.
Templates
Custom page layouts and reusable components bring consistency to the design. Each one is shaped around its content and purpose, making future pages easier to create.
Build
Once the designs are approved, they can be developed into a custom WordPress website. Responsive behaviour, content editing and interactions are considered throughout.
Launch and after
Before launch, the finished website is checked against the approved designs and tested across devices. Ongoing support and improvements are available as your needs develop.

Already have a developer? The project can finish with organised Figma files, reusable components and practical handover notes for your development team.

Web design questions
01 What is the difference between Web Design and UX/UI Design?
Web design focuses on the website as a whole, its structure, visual direction, responsive layouts and how the pages work together. UX/UI design goes deeper into user journeys, interactions and interface behaviour, particularly for platforms, applications and more complex digital products.
02 Do you use a theme or page builder?
No. My design process isn’t based around the limitations of a pre-built WordPress theme or page builder. Instead, the design is shaped around the content, users and requirements of the project.
If I’m also developing the website, the design becomes the foundation for a custom WordPress build.
03 Will I be able to edit the site myself?
Yes. When I handle both design and WordPress development, the editing experience is planned alongside the front end. The goal is to give you useful control over content without making it easy to accidentally break the design.
04 Can you redesign our existing site without starting over?
Sometimes. I first look at the existing website, its structure and the underlying WordPress build. If the foundation is sound, selected areas can be redesigned or improved. If it isn’t, I’ll explain why a rebuild may make more sense.
05 What happens to our SEO when the site changes?
SEO is considered during the redesign rather than after it. Important content and URLs are preserved where appropriate, redirects are planned when URLs need to change, and page structure, internal linking and performance are considered throughout the project.
For deeper technical and on-page work, I also offer SEO as a separate service.
06 Do you write the content?
I can help structure content and identify what each page needs to communicate, but full copywriting isn’t automatically included in every web design project. If you’re providing the copy, the design will be built around real content wherever possible rather than relying on placeholder text.
07 How many rounds of revisions do we get?
The number of revision rounds is agreed in the project scope before work begins. I explain the reasoning behind major design decisions and collect feedback at defined stages, which helps avoid endless rounds of small changes.
